Sonamarg Readies to Welcomes Winter Tourists, Emerges as Premier Winter Sports Destination

Sonamarg, Nov 14: The picturesque hill station of Sonamarg is gearing up to become a bustling winter sports hub, capitalizing on its newfound accessibility via the recently completed Z-Morh Tunnel. Once confined to summer beauty, Sonamarg now plans to host a range of exciting winter activities that will cement its position as Jammu and Kashmir's premier winter destination.

The Z-Morh Tunnel has been instrumental in making Sonamarg an all-weather destination, keeping it accessible even during harsh weather conditions. According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, substantial efforts are underway to transform Sonamarg into a sought-after winter getaway.

"We're thrilled to welcome tourists year-round with the Z-Morh Tunnel now open for accessibility," Bhat stated. "This development will not only bolster the local economy but also significantly boost Sonamarg's allure as a winter tourism destination."

The SDA has lined up an impressive winter sports lineup featuring ice skating, snow skiing, and other activities tailored to attract tourists. With over 300 rooms available daily for accommodation, Bhat asserted that Sonamarg is merely starting to host winter events, with more infrastructure being developed to ensure visitors' convenience.

To maintain its natural beauty, the SDA has launched cleanliness drives to eradicate garbage and polythene from the area, transforming Sonamarg into a pristine destination.

Hoteliers and traders are optimistic about the upcoming season, expecting a significant surge in interest, a departure from previous winters when heavy snowfall and avalanche risks limited access to the area. The Z-Morh Tunnel has broken down this barrier, enabling continuous visits despite hazardous stretches such as Hung near Gagangeer.

The district administration is ensuring all essential services are ready for winter, including electricity and water supply. "This initiative brings joy to both locals and tourists, who are eager to experience the beauty of 'Meadow of Gold' in the winter season."

Sonamarg's emergence as a top winter destination is now well within its grasp, seamlessly blending natural allure with thrilling winter adventure experiences that will captivate tourists from across the country.
