Sona Comstar Mourns Loss of Chairman and Non-Executive Director Sunjay Kapur

Kolkata, February 20 - Shares of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar), a key manufacturer and supplier of engineered automotive systems, are in focus after the company announced the passing of its Chairman and Non-Executive Director Sunjay Kapur. The news has sent ripples through the stock market, with investors eyeing the company's operations and prospects.

In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Sona Comstar expressed its heartfelt condolences to Kapur's family, friends, and all those influenced by his remarkable life. "Sunjay was a visionary leader and a compassionate person whose guidance shaped Sona Comstar’s success," said the company in a statement.

The company assured its customers, business partners, employees, and shareholders that its operations and prospects remain unchanged. "We are committed to upholding his legacy by advancing our mission and the values he instilled in Sona Comstar," it said.

Kapur's passing is a significant blow to the automotive industry, particularly given Sona Comstar's focus on electric vehicle (EV) segments. The company reported revenue of Rs 864.80 crore in Q4FY25, down 2.2 per cent, primarily due to a model transition by a key customer.

The news comes as investors were already keeping an eye on the company following its Q4FY25 earnings report last month. Sona Comstar had reported better-than-expected revenue from its EV segment, but noted a decline in hybrid/micro-hybrid revenues weighed on sales, while a slowdown in the commercial vehicles (CV) segment led to a decline in its revenue share.

Analysts believe that the industry's focus on sustainable and electric vehicles poses new opportunities for growth. "The full impact and timeline for normalization are still evolving, further clarity is anticipated by the end of the quarter (June-end)," said LKP Securities in their May 5 report.

Sona Comstar shares were trading at Rs 1,115.30 per unit in Kolkata evening, slightly up from their closing price last week.

In related news, Kapur was also a director on several other boards, including Jindal Steel & Power Limited and Indian Public Schools Society. He was the ex-husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor.
