Small Business Saturday in Northwest D.C.: Locals Flock to Support Loyal Enterprises
WASHINGTON — Saturday has brought a flood of customers to local, family-owned businesses across the nation's capital, including Bold Fork Books in Northwest D.C. The celebration marks a crucial day for small business owners like Clementine Thomas, who count on patronage from loyal patrons.
"I'd be lost without this support," said Thomas, owner of Bold Fork Books, which has been an Adams Morgan staple since 2020. "It's always a busy day, but Small Business Saturday is especially important to us."
Thomas reported that the crowd at her store was busier than usual, with customers from all walks of life browsing shelves and chatting with staff. Among those who stopped by was Vice President Kamala Harris, who met with Thomas and sampled some of her famous cookbooks.
"It's days like these that keep me going," said Thomas, beaming with pride. "When I see so many familiar faces coming in to support us."
According to Thomas, the surge in customers on Small Business Saturday has its roots in community loyalty and appreciation for the services provided by local shops like her own.
