Sikh Non-Profit Distributes Thousands of Free Meals to Northeast Communities
A Sikh non-profit organization based in New Jersey, 'Let's Share a Meal', has successfully organized a massive free meal distribution event across multiple locations in the northeast U.S., serving thousands of individuals. The initiative, inspired by Guru Nanak, saw over 700 volunteers come together to distribute more than 10,000 meals.
The organization, which was founded on Sikh principles, has a long history of providing food and community support. Since its inception, 'Let's Share a Meal' has successfully provided over a million meals across the country, as evident from its extensive national reach and impact.
Onkar Singh, one of the event's organizers, highlighted the significance of the concept known as 'langar', which was developed by the founder of Sikhism. Langar represents a community kitchen concept that embodies the values of peace, harmony, and universal Oneness.
As someone long involved with the organization, Harleen Kaur expressed her gratitude for witnessing the growth of 'Let's Share a Meal' over the past 15 years. Today, the non-profit distribution reaches an impressive 20,000 meals annually, thanks to extensive community participation.
In recent events like this, 'Let's Share a Meal' shines as a beacon of hope and kindness in people's lives. By drawing close to core Sikh values, the organization continues to strive towards empowering communities.
