Shillong's Steve Jyrwa Crowned Winner of India’s Best Dancer Season 4
Shillong, October 9, 2023 - In a dazzling finale on Sunday, Steve Jyrwa from Shillong was declared the winner of India’s Best Dancer Season 4, taking home the coveted trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 15 lakhs and a brand new car. His choreographer, Raktim Thakuria, also celebrated a victory, receiving a cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs.
The season, judged by Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, alongside dance maestros Geeta Kapur and Terence Lewis, concluded with Steve outperforming finalists Harsh Keshri, Nextion, Nepo, Akanksha Mishra (Akina), and Aditya Malviya.
Karisma Kapoor lauded Steve's journey on the show, noting his exceptional talent and dedication. In his victory speech to Hindustan Times, Steve shared, “This achievement is very important for me. I have seen my family struggle a lot because of me in terms of money and with relatives too. Apart from my nani and mother, my family was against me dancing. I have proved them wrong. My win is an answer to all their doubts... That we can accomplish a lot of things with dance.”
Steve's path to victory was not just a tale of talent but also of triumph over adversity. He recalled his early childhood struggles with mobility, crediting his grandmother for helping him overcome these challenges. “The kid who couldn’t work has become famous for footwork,” he mused. “As a child, I couldn’t walk, and I danced so well and got so much appreciation for my footwork... I don’t believe that I couldn’t walk during my childhood... I have to think hard about how it really happened. My nani helped me overcome it all. It is because of her strength and dedication that I can walk and dance today.”
Following his performance in the grand finale, special guest and renowned choreographer Remo D’souza met Steve and hinted at a potential film role. While Steve has not officially confirmed any projects, he teased his participation in the upcoming 'India’s Best Dancer vs Super Dancer’s Champions Ka Tashan', set to feature judges Remo Dsouza and Malaika Arora, premiering on November 16.
Steve's win not only marks a personal milestone but also shines a spotlight on the potential of dance as a transformative art form, inspiring many with his journey from struggle to stardom.
