Shami's Selection For Border-Gavaskar Trophy Rests On NCA Sports Science Wing's Approval: Report

Mumbai (December 1, 2024), - The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is on high alert as it considers bringing back veteran pacer Mohammed Shami to the Indian team for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Shami's inclusion in the squad will only take place if the BCCI gets the go-ahead from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Sports Science Wing.

Shami has been out of action nearly a year, and his return to competitive cricket is being closely monitored by the BCCI's Sport Science Department along with national selector SS Das. The key metrics that will determine whether Shami can take to Test cricket include his fitness and ability to handle the intensity of the game.

In order to determine whether Shami is ready to play Tests for India again, the NCA has been keeping a close eye on the veteran pacer's progress, including his workouts with trainer Nitin Patel. The BCCI has instructed the Sports Science Department to continue monitoring Shami's fitness until they get confirmation from them that he is fit and ready to join the team.

This news comes as a relief for fans who had been eagerly waiting for Shami's inclusion in the squad, given that his return could strengthen India's batting lineup. If Shami is considered good enough by the BCCI, it would mean that India would have a formidable fast-bowling trio in place, with both Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj joining him.

Shami will now have three more games against Meghalaya, Bihar and Rajasthan to further prove his fitness before the BCCI takes a final decision on him. His return could be crucial in helping India counter Australia's top batting lineup, making this series an exciting test for cricket fans worldwide.
