Shami Returns: Star Pacer Mohammed Shami Set for Bengal Debut in Upcoming Ranji Trophy Fixture

Mumbai, Dec 12 - Nearly a year after his ignominious exit from India's fold, pacer Mohammed Shami is all set to don the Bengal cap as he becomes eligible for competitive cricket again. The 34-year-old will lead from the front when Bengal takes on Madhya Pradesh in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 fixture at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.

The addition of Shami to Bengal's squad has sent ripples of excitement through the cricketing community, with many hailing his inclusion as a massive boost for the team. Bengal is currently languishing fifth on Group C after an underwhelming start to the tournament, having accumulated only 18 points from three draws and one result-less match.

Despite being absent from competitive cricket for nearly eight months after undergoing ankle surgery, Shami's inclusion in Bengal's squad has brought renewed hope among fans of the team. Shami, of course, had hinted at his return with an Instagram post last month where he promised fans and the BCCI that he would regain full fitness and don the red ball cap once again. He posted a video apologizing for not being part of India's 18-member Test squad during their series against New Zealand.

"Putting in my efforts and getting better with my bowling fitness day-by-day," Shami captioned his Instagram post. "Will continue working hard towards getting ready for the match and to play domestic red ball cricket. Sorry to all cricket fans and BCCI too, but very soon I'm ready to play."

With Shami set to spearhead Bengal's attack against Madhya Pradesh on December 16, expect fireworks from the Holkar Cricket Stadium as India's star pacer puts up a show that would surely be remembered for a long time!
