Sericulture Industry Sees Boost as Entrepreneurship Training Programme Launched
A one-week entrepreneurship and skill development training programme on "Sericulture Entrepreneurship: Starting and Scaling a Silk Farming Business" was launched at the College of Temperate Sericulture, SKUAST-K, in Srinagar on November 11.
The programme, sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of attendees regarding entrepreneurship opportunities in the sericulture industry. Thirty participants from across Jammu and Kashmir have registered for the program, which is being held at Diwar, Pattan, Baramulla.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Dr Nisar Ahmad Ganie, Professor and Head (Coordinator) at SKUAST-K, who emphasized the importance of active participation and maximizing the benefits of the training sessions.
"These programmes are of great significance in these emerging times for the silk industry," Prof Ganie said during his inaugural address.
Assistant Professors Syed Farhat Iqbal Qadri and Masarat Bashir also delivered presentations on the aims and objectives of the programme and avenues and opportunities available in silk farming, respectively.
The training programme is part of a series of initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneur education and skill development in Jammu and Kashmir. The sericulture industry has been facing several challenges in recent years, and such programmes are seen as crucial in empowering entrepreneurs to scale up their businesses and contribute to the sector's growth.
