SCRAP MARKET FIRE IN KURLA LEAVES FURNITURE AND OTHER MATERIALS DAMAGED

Mumbai, Feb 1: A major fire broke out at a scrap market in suburban Kurla (West) on Saturday afternoon, leaving a trail of destruction and damage to multiple shops and vehicles.

According to civic officials, the blaze was extinguished after four hours following a fierce dousing operation by multiple fire engines, water tankers, and fire brigade teams. The fire started at around 4:20 pm in one of the 'gala' (units) at the scrap market near Equinox building.

The fire quickly spread to eight shops in lane number two and three shops in lane number three. Unfortunately, a young firefighter, Suraj Tanaji Nakashe (25), received a minor injury to his left knee during the operation and was subsequently treated at the hospital before being discharged.

Scrap material, electrical wiring and installations, cardboard stock, furniture, plastic materials, and empty chemical drums were among the items damaged in the fire. The exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The incident highlights the need for strict safety measures to prevent similar mishaps from occurring. The civic authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the root cause of the fire and implement necessary improvements to prevent future incidents.

As per reports, multiple lanes in the area were affected by the fire, causing inconvenience to commuters. However, thanks to the prompt response of the fire brigade and relief services, no loss of life was reported.

The incident is a grim reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols and regulations in commercial establishments.
