Russia Launches Largest Drone and Missile Attack in Recent Months, Kills 8 in Ukraine

Kiev, Ukraine - November 18, 2023 (Reuters) - A wave of Russian missiles and drones struck a nine-story building in the city of Sumy in northern Ukraine on Sunday, killing eight people, including two children, the Ukrainian government said.

The attack, described by officials as the largest in recent months, destroyed much of the building, leaving dozens wounded and hundreds seeking rescue. Over 400 people had to be evacuated from the site, with responders scrambling to search every apartment to determine if any others were still trapped.

"Unfortunately, eight people have died, including two children," Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs, told a news conference. The exact extent of the damage and casualties is still emerging, but officials said that many more had been injured when the attack began.
