RR Captain Sanju Samson Open to Sharing Wicketkeeping Duties with Youngster Dhruv Jurel

Jaipur, Rajasthan - In a shocking twist, Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson is open to sharing the wicketkeeping duties in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The 26-year-old skipper has expressed willingness to hand over some of his responsibilities to young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel, who made his Test debut just a few months ago.

Samson's comments come ahead of the new IPL season, which is set to kick off in March 2025. RR had retained Samson for an impressive Rs 18 crore, but it seems that he might not be doing double duty as wicketkeeper and fielder next season.

"It was a discussion with Dhruv, and I think we will share the gloves," Samson revealed on a chat on Ab de Villiers' YouTube channel. "I understand where Dhruv is at this point of his career, and he needs to wear the gloves in the IPL. As a team leader, it's essential that you prioritize the team over individual interests."

Jurel, 24, has been trying to make an impact for India in Test cricket, but the emergence of Rishabh Pant has limited his opportunities. However, with Pant now back to full fitness, Jurel is likely to return to the national team.

RR's IPL 2025 squad consists of a mix of experienced and young players, including Shahrukh Khan's recommended pick Yashasvi Jaiswal. While Samson's decision to share wicketkeeping duties with Jurel might raise some eyebrows, it could pay off if both players work as a cohesive unit.

The Rajasthan Royals will start their Indian Premier League campaign on March 18 against Delhi Capitals at Dr. Sodhi Memorial Stadium in Mohali. Fans are eager to see Samson and Jurel showcase their capabilities together with the team.
