Mumbai: India's team will be without its captain Rohit Sharma for the second_testmatch against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), starting on January 4, as he has opted out citing a wrist injury issue.
This marks the first time an Indian captain was dropped from the national team following a series of crucial overseas assignments where India's batting line-up is heavily reliant on Rohit and Virat Kohli.
A string of injuries affecting his bowlers with Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav leaving Jasprit alone to back up Mohammad Shami in the limited services of Ishant Sharma will also be looked at during the tour.
