Reliance-Jio Disney Merges Sports Business Under Single Head Sanjog Gupta
New Delhi: In a significant move, Sanjog Gupta, Head of Sports at Disney Star, has been tasked with leading the newly merged sports business entity of Reliance and Disney, rebranded as JioStar. As part of this restructuring, Gupta will be supported by a 7-member team across various departments to drive growth and expansion in the sports industry.
The key department heads appointed under Gupta's leadership include Siddharth Sharma, who will oversee audience engagement, viewership, and monetization initiatives for sport content; Prashant Khanna, responsible for sports production services for all consumer functions and production technology; and Mallika Petkar, in charge of business, consumer acquisition, and distribution strategy for sports.
Meanwhile, key international deals have been entrusted to Harry Griffith, who will focus on licensing and syndication revenues across international markets, while also overseeing global partnerships. Damyant K Singh has taken charge of managing the portfolio of sport brands and community platforms such as Cricinfo.
To support audience growth and brand visibility, Vikram Passi will spearhead overall marketing efforts across screens, aiming to drive reach and growth for the JioStar sports organization.
Additionally, a dedicated revenue team consisting of Anupam Govindan, Arup Bansal, Sunil Pasricha, and five others under Gupta's oversight has been set up. This team will focus on driving revenue through strategic partnerships, brand solutions, and sports-related operational efficiencies.
Moreover, Namita Jadhav has been appointed as the corporate communication head for the sports division of JioStar. Her appointment aims to strengthen the organization's internal and external communications, solidifying its presence in the ever-evolving sports industry.
With this new setup, JioStar aims to leverage Disney Star's expertise and Reliance Industries' resources to create a comprehensive sports entertainment platform at scale, offering an enhanced experience for fans across India and globally.
