Reliance and Disney Unveil Sports Business Unit, JioStar, With Key Appointments
New Delhi: In a significant move, Reliance Industries has announced the formation of its new sports business unit, JioStar, which will be led by Sanjog Gupta, Head of Sports at Disney Star. As part of this new entity, several high-profile appointments have been made, marking a major push into India's burgeoning sports market.
Reporting directly to Sanjog Gupta, an eight-member team has been assembled to spearhead the sports business. Siddharth Sharma will oversee audience engagement, viewership, and monetisation initiatives for sports platforms. Prashant Khanna will ensure the provision of high-quality sports production services across various consumer touchpoints.
Mallika Petkar's role involves formulating strategic plans for distributing sports content and acquiring new customers. In contrast to their global counterparts, JioStar's Harry Griffith has been assigned the responsibility of securing international licensing agreements and syndication revenue.
On top of these key hires, Damyant K Singh will be in charge of a diverse portfolio of domestic and foreign sports brands as well as managing Cricinfo interests.
Vikram Passi serves as the business head of Mashal and also assumes chairmanship for all League undertakings within JioStar.
An additional revenue team member trio – Anupam Govindan, Arup Bansal & Sunil Pasricha have dotted lines attached to Sanjog. Each has been tasked with contributing their distinct areas of expertise to expand the revenue streams on digital platforms across several markets.
The new sports unit will be supported by Anupam Goswami, who oversees its operational prowess and strategic direction for core offerings.
Finally, Namita Jadhav assumes oversight as corporate head of communication in sports interests within JioStar's hierarchy.
