Rapid Vaccination Effort Hailed as Success in Response to Polio Outbreaks in Guinea

A short film released yesterday sheds light on the swift and effective response of the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners in Siguiri, a densely populated gold mining region in Guinea, where two polio outbreaks were reported in 2023 and 2024.
Located in a remote area of West Africa, Siguiri is particularly vulnerable to health threats due to overcrowding. In reaction, the WHO and its allies launched an emergency vaccination campaign aimed at halting the spread of the virus and safeguarding the region's inhabitants.
The video, part of a global series on health issues, challenges, and achievements featured at the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva last May, showcases the rapid and coordinated efforts made by the WHO and its partners to combat the outbreak.
