Punjab Kings Unveils Strong Squad, Eyes Title Shot in IPL 2025
New Delhi (Alaryana.com): As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is just around the corner, Punjab Kings (PBKS), led by new head coach Ricky Ponting, has finalized its squad with a massive purse of Rs. 110.5 crore — the highest among all franchises. In an effort to build a balanced team, PBKS has strategically retained key players and acquired prominent talent.
The team's full player list includes Shreyas Iyer, purchased for a record-breaking INR 26.75 crore. The seasoned Indian batsman brings leadership experience and consistency to the batting department, which had been the team's Achilles' heel in previous seasons.
In addition to Iyer, PBKS has bolstered its bowling lineup with Arshdeep Singh (INR 18 crore) and Yuzvendra Chahal (INR 18 crore), two of India's top wicket-takers in T20Is. These players add versatility and depth to the team's bowling department.
Ponting's tactical acumen is evident in the team's decision-making process, with a focus on addressing past inconsistencies through player retention and strategic acquisitions. The coaching staff has also made key announcements regarding assistant coach Brad Haddin and bowling coaches Charl Langeveldt and Sunil Joshi.
"We've been able to build a well-rounded squad that addresses our weaknesses from previous seasons," Ponting said in a statement. "Our focus is on stability, tactical acumen, and long-term planning to achieve our goal of winning the championship."
The 2025 IPL season is set to begin on March 14 and conclude on May 25, with PBKS looking to write a new chapter in their franchise's history.
