Punjab Government Introduces Punjab Forensic Science Authority Act 2024, Aims To Modernize Forensic Investigation

In a significant move to revamp its forensic investigation machinery, the Punjab government on Friday introduced the Punjab Forensic Science Authority Act 2024 in the Punjab Assembly. This new legislation aims to modernize the forensic science systems in the province by establishing a globally recognized forensic science institution with autonomy.

Punjab Home Department spokesperson has stated that under the proposedAct, the Punjab Forensic Science Agency will be elevated as an Authorities of its own kind. According to this law, Punjab Forensic Science Authority is defined to contain broad definitions for forensic material which can enable the examination on a wide range of materials including documents and humans.

As such, chief minister of province of Punjab will chair the Forensic Science Authority with the authority to appoint a Vice-chairperson and in order to make sure full working ability the headquarter authority consists of multiple department heads and experts from different field.

The introduction of this new legislation has been met with approval as it intends to provide updated technology and equipment for conducting forensic analyses which enable examination of all types of materials, documents, individuals brought for their analysis. Forensic Science Authority will be responsible to present reports in relevant courts by giving expert opinions.

A copy of Punjab Forensic Science Agency Act 2007 is given to become ineffective as the new one becomes effective once the bill is passed.
