Punjab Agricultural University Honours International Sports Writer Sarwan Singh

In recognition of his invaluable contributions to the world of sports and sports journalism, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana hosted a special ceremony to honour internationally acclaimed sports writer Sarwan Singh.

Vice-Chancellor Satbir Singh Gosal welcomed Sarwan, acknowledging his motivational role in athletes and preservation of sports heritage through impactful writing. Gosal highlighted the critical role sports journalists play in documenting a country’s sports history and elevating its achievements on the global stage.

“Through their words, sports writers inspire athletes and bring their journeys to light, creating a legacy for future generations,” said Gosal. He praised Sarwan's passion for sports and his engaging writing style, which resonates with readers worldwide.

Sarwan expressed his gratitude and admiration for PAU’s significant contributions to the nation's sports landscape, stating that the university's sports culture is a source of national pride. The university had produced numerous legendary athletes and holds the unique distinction of having given India three Olympic hockey captains.

Alumni Honour

Meanwhile, PAU alumnus Ravinder Singh has received the prestigious 'Outstanding Master Thesis Award-2024' for his research in pickle chilli breeding. The award was presented during the first international conference on "Innovations to Achieve Climate Resilient Smart Agriculture for Ensuring Global Food and Nutritional Security (IACRSAEGNS-2024)", held at the Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Ravinder Singh completed his M.Sc. Horticulture (Vegetable Science) under the guidance of Dr S.K. Jindal, Principal Vegetable Breeder at PAU, conducting award-winning research on "Evaluation of Promising Lines for Yield and Quality Traits along with Leaf Curl Virus Disease Resistance in Pickled Chilli".
