Private Sports Academies in Kerala Deliver Exceptional Performance by State Schools

KOCHI: The growing number of private sports academies in Kerala is no surprise, given their significant impact on the performance of athletes participating in the state's schools' sporting events.

A notable example is Madhava Vilasam HSS, a school in Thundathil, Kollam district, which has achieved remarkable success despite lacking a swimming pool and an aquatics coach. The school's students, who are trained by students of the SAI-Glenmark swimming academy, secured 146 points for their school, playing a pivotal role in Thiruvananthapuram's overall title triumph.

The SAI-Glenmark academy, which provides free training to selected kids from all over India, has partnered with MVHSS, making it the nearest outlet for aspiring swimmers. The partnership has yielded impressive results, showcasing the quality of private academies in Kerala.

In athletics, Govt HSS Kuttamath earned all ten medals for Kasaragod District, winning six gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. The reason behind their remarkable performance lies in the fact that their medal-winning students are trained by trainees of KC Throws Academy in Cheruvathoor. The academy utilizes the GHSS, Kuttamath's ground for practice.

Similarly, VM HSS, Vadavanoor in Palakkad earned eight medals despite being a rural school with limited training facilities. They utilized the Palakkad medical college ground where Olympic Athletic Academy conducts training, which proved to be an effective strategy. This marks the school's first medal in 42 years at the Schools' meet.

Private sports academies are making their presence felt across Kerala. For instance, Vijay Krishna of Chaldean Syrian HSS in Thrissur won the junior boys' 110m hurdles after training with the Alvas Ekalavya Sports Academy in Mangalore for six months.

The success of private sports academies serves as a testament to their dedication and innovative approaches in nurturing young athletes. With growing numbers of these institutions operating in Kerala, it is likely that we will witness more schools achieving commendable results in upcoming state's sporting events.
