President-elect Donald Trump Names Mike Waltz as National Security Adviser Amid Criticism of Biden Administration's Afghanistan Withdrawal

Washington D.C, December [Insert Date] - In a move that has been seen as another major executive branch overhaul by President-elect Donald Trump, Florida Representative Mike Waltz has been selected to serve as the country's new national security adviser. According to sources cited by Reuters on Monday, Trump handpicked Waltz for the role citing his extensive experience fighting at the top of the US special forces and being open and candid about China in the Asia-Pacific.
Waltz, a former Green Beret, has long been an outspoken critic of China's increased expansion in the region, criticizing their presence as 'disruptors' that don't 'come with nice packaging'. His blunt assessments on key international players could be seen as crucial input for Trump to address various hotspots and ongoing issues. As he will be tasked with briefing the new president-elect along with coordinating between different government departments and offices of US national security.
Waltz expressed support for Trump in a speech in 2021 where criticism of his handling at Afghanistan were being directed by those such as Representative Eric "Rick" Massie - Republican representative who served in various positions under the previous Biden administration's foreign policy. "Disruptors are often not nice… Frankly our national security establishment and certainly a lot of people that are dug into bad old habits in the Pentagon need that disruption," Waltz stated with Trump likely praising Waltz.
These nominations were made following Trump's victory. It marked only the second time in America's history a president was re-elected for non-consecutive terms, set first by 22nd US President Grover Cleveland after finishing two separate elected periods - as of January 4 1885 to 1893 and then again from November 2 in 1897.
Trump also appointed Republican representative Elise Stefanik as the country's new Ambassador to the United Nations. In her capacity, she has been the Chairwoman for House Republicans. "I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my cabinet," Trump said via a statement in his long-standing presidential style.
