Poonch Sector Accident: Five Soldiers Killed, Eight Injured in Army Vehicle Mishap
NEW DELHI - At least five soldiers have lost their lives and eight others have been injured in a tragic accident that occurred in Jammu & Kashmir's Poonch sector on Tuesday.
According to sources, the accident took place during the operational duty of the army when a vehicle carrying the soldiers skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge. The incident happened in the Gharoa area, approximately 300-350 feet deep, resulting in serious injuries to the eight jawans.
The Army spokesperson confirmed that one 2.5 ton vehicle, part of a convoy of six vehicles, went off the road into a nullah near Poonch around 17:20 hours. The vehicle was carrying ten individuals, out of which five were killed and five others were injured.
"Individuals travelling in the vehicle were ten in number and five were killed while five others were injured," said the spokesperson. "The cause of the accident is being ascertained, with preliminary investigations suggesting that possibly the driver lost control at the turn of the road."
Rescue operations are currently underway, and the injured personnel are receiving medical care. The White Knight Corps has extended its condolences to the families of the five brave soldiers who lost their lives in the accident.
"We extend our deepest condolences on the tragic loss of five brave soldiers in a vehicle accident during operational duty in the Poonch sector," said an official from the White Knight Corps on X. "Rescue operations are ongoing, and the injured personnel are receiving medical care."
