LUDHIANA: Union food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Kartarpur corridor between Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab’s Gurdaspur and Darbar Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan on November 8.
Harsimrat, who was campaigning in Dakha constituency for Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Manpreet Ayali ahead of the bypoll, said Modi and other Central government dignitaries would come to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) stage during the inauguration of the Kartarpur corridor in November. She said home minister Amit Shah was scheduled to attend the SGPC function on November 11, while President Ram Nath Kovind would preside over the main function at Sultanpur Lodhi on November 12.
She condemned the Amarinder Singh-led Congress government in Punjab for setting up a separate stage for the religious event. “In the past, whenever any centenary celebrations have been organised in Punjab, SGPC has made all the arrangements while the state government has supported those events,” she pointed out.
Harsimrat told the media at Latala village that it was extremely unfortunate that the Congress government had decided to hold a parallel function despite an advisory from Sri Akali Takht jathedar Harpreet Singh and attempts by SGPC to hold a joint celebration. “A joint coordination committee was made but Congress representatives did not let efforts for a joint celebration succeed,” she claimed.
The SAD minister also tweeted, “With the blessings of Guru Nanak Devji, Sikh Panth’s ardaas for khule darshan deedar of Sri Kartarpur Sahib to finally become reality! On November 8th, history will be created with PM Narendra Modiji inaugurating the Kartarpur corridor (ICP).”
Punjab CM Amarinder Singh had last week invited the President and PM to attend the 550th Prakash Purb celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev as well as the opening of the Kartarpur corridor.
