PM Narendra Modi Set to Receive Dominica's Highest National Award

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive Dominica's highest national award, the 'Dominica Award of Honour,' in recognition of his vital support during the COVID-19 pandemic and his commitment to strengthening India-Dominica relations.

According to a press release by the Government of Dominica, President Sylvanie Burton will bestow the award during the upcoming India-CARICOM Summit, set to take place in Georgetown, Guyana, from November 19 to 21.

In February 2021, India supplied Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, which enabled the nation to extend support to its Caribbean neighbours. The government said that this generous gift was instrumental in helping Dominica navigate the pandemic.

The award also acknowledges India's support for Dominica in education and information technology under PM Modi's leadership, as well as his role in promoting climate resilience-building initiatives and sustainable development on a global level.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed gratitude towards PM Modi, stating that he has been a "true partner" to Dominica during its time of need. The award symbolises the nation's appreciation for Modi's support and reflects the strong ties between their countries.

As part of his diplomatic tour, PM Modi will also be presenting the award in Guyana. This visit is part of Modi's efforts to enhance India's long-standing friendship with CARICOM member countries.

The Prime Minister will participate in the Second CARICOM-India Summit, where he will hold meetings with leaders from the region to further strengthen their relationships and address global challenges such as climate change and geopolitical conflicts.

"We look forward to building on this partnership and advancing our shared vision of progress and resilience," Skerrit added.
