PM Modi Hails Maha Kumbh as Celebration of India's Unity in Diversity

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised people's participation in the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, describing it as a celebration of India's "unity in diversity".

Addressing his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, on Sunday, PM Modi referred to the festival as the "Ekta Ka Maha Kumbh" (Maha Kumbh of Unity). He hailed the event for its extraordinary scenes featuring large crowds and an incredible confluence of equality and harmony.

"People from across the world gather at the sands of Sangam. This age-old tradition knows no discrimination or casteism," PM Modi stated, highlighting the inclusivity of the Maha Kumbh. "People from southern, eastern, and western India come together. Rich and poor unite at the Kumbh, taking a dip in the Sangam, sharing community feasts, and receiving prasad."

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Kumbh demonstrates how traditions bind the entire nation together, connecting festival celebrations such as those held in Prayagraj, Ujjain, Haridwar, and Nasik to shared beliefs.

He also noted the increasing involvement of youth in the festival, saying that when young people connect with their civilization, its roots grow stronger. Additionally, he praised the digital advancements seen in the Kumbh, calling its global popularity a "matter of pride for every Indian".

Other festivals such as Pushkarams and Gangasagar Mela were also highlighted by PM Modi as encouraging social harmony and reinforcement of traditions that connect people across India.

The Prime Minister marked the first anniversary of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, calling it "a day of the rebirth of India's cultural consciousness". He emphasized the importance of preserving India's heritage while drawing inspiration from it as the country progresses towards development.

Thousands of devotees braved the cold to take a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam during the official beginning of Maha Kumbh 2025, marking an extraordinary start to this year-long celebration.
