PCB Offers Special Condition to Host Champions Trophy 2025 in Hybrid Model
In a significant development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced its willingness to host the ICC Men's T20 Champions Trophy 2025, provided that it is allowed to implement a hybrid model for the tournament. According to reports emanating from Islamabad, the PCB has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to consider granting this special permission.
A senior official familiar with the situation revealed to Alayaran that under the proposed hybrid model, the PCB would be required to co-host key rounds of the championship with other countries in order to bring some financial stability. This requirement, however, comes at a cost - Islamabad will have to cede significant control over various aspects of the event.
As part of this deal, three locations outside Pakistan are expected to be included as host venues for major parts of the tournament. The PCB had previously expressed interest in hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy itself but faced opposition from lawmakers, who are not keen on using their country as a 'venue' without proper guarantee.
According to sources close to the negotiations, it would be a challenge to convince all stakeholders about this alternative option. There is growing discontent among the general public against foreign teams holding high-profile sporting events in Pakistan due to recent security concerns and previous instances of international matches being cancelled or postponed upon short notice.
Despite these hurdles, PCB President Rameez Arif believes that successful co-hosting will not only enable Pakistan's rich cricket heritage to shine on a global stage but also serve as vital step towards reviving the nation's reputation with sports enthusiasts abroad.
