OW Submits Planning Consent Application for 2GW Caledonia Offshore Wind Project
Aberdeenshire Council, Scotland - Ocean Winds (OW) has submitted its first planning consent application for onshore works for the 2GW Caledonia offshore wind project in Scotland.
The submission follows the completion of the project's environmental impact assessment (EIA), which covers both onshore and offshore infrastructure. The EIA report reflects the needs of OW's stakeholders and is a result of intensive investment in the early stages of the project.
OW Caledonia onshore consent manager Ruaridh Danaher said: "This is the project's biggest milestone, coming after three years of work to develop the project and complete the environmental impact assessment." The application marks the third venture for OW in the Moray Firth area, following the operational Moray East and the recently powered Moray West.
With the addition of Caledonia, the total offshore wind generation capacity in the Moray Firth is expected to double. The project aims to support the UK government's Clean Power by 2030 plans.
OW Caledonia project director Mark Baxter added: "I would like to thank everyone who has helped us reach this major milestone – particularly our stakeholders across the Moray Firth." The EIA report contains a vast amount of information reflecting the needs of OW's stakeholders, and the company is investing in high-quality data to develop a robust application.
OW also recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte to enhance Brazil's offshore wind energy capabilities, showcasing the company's commitment to expanding its business opportunities globally.
