Only one student enrolled in Telangana village school amidst declining enrolment
Khammam: A government school in a rural village in Khammam district of Telangana is facing a dismal scenario this academic year as it holds only one student, a Class 4 girl, with no teachers to supervise her learning. According to the district education official, who wished anonymity, the school had a healthy number of students in previous years but has been steadily witnessing decline in enrolment over time.
The lone student, identified as 10-year-old Harika from Wyra mandal in the district, continues her studies at the upper primary school with great efforts being put to ensure that she gets an undisturbed education. Despite the challenges, the village resident is committed to accessing quality education and is taking necessary steps to complete her studies.
The decline in enrolment has been a long-standing issue for many rural schools in Telangana, including this particular one. Officials attribute the dwindling number of students to the gradual erosion of the education infrastructure in the rural areas due to funding constraints and lack of government support.
