NTT Corporation Set to Unveil Groundbreaking Technologies at 2024 R&D Forum
Tokyo, Japan - November 15, 2023 - NTT Corporation will host its 2024 R&D Forum from November 25 to 29, showcasing pioneering advancements in technology that aim to build a more sustainable society. The event marks the latest milestone in NTT's "IOWN INTEGRAL" initiative, which emphasizes integrating Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN) across various applications.
This year's forum will highlight three groundbreaking global-first innovations in research and development. Firstly, NTT and Olympus Corporation will unveil a cloud-based endoscopy system powered by NTT's All-Photonics Network (APN). This technology enables real-time remote diagnosis and treatment by transferring image analysis tasks to the cloud, revolutionizing traditional endoscopy.
NTT researchers have also developed multi-core optical fibres with four times the capacity of current systems. These innovation will address the increasing demand for high-capacity optical communication, particularly in inter-data centre connections and undersea cabling.
Furthermore, NTT's open-ear headphones will make its global debut, featuring a unique combination of active noise control and Personalized Sound Zone (PSZ) technology. This enables immersive audio experiences without covering the ears, revolutionizing real-world soundscape management.
The "IOWN INTEGRAL" theme demonstrates NTT's commitment to harnessing photonic technology-based IOWN framework to achieve ultra-high capacity, low latency, and energy-efficient networks. The forum will explore how these applications can transform industries and drive sustainability.
Among the featured areas are advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum computing, cybersecurity, and medical technology. Highlights include lightweight large language models like NTT's Tsuzumi for sustainable AI and advanced generative AI applications in network management. Additionally, optical quantum computing technologies will be showcased to tackle complex problems.
Personalized devices and medical advancements will also take center stage, with the demonstration of noninvasive glucose sensors and mental health research.
The event kicked off with a keynote by Shingo Kinoshita, NTT's SVP of R&D Planning, followed by a guided tour of 17 exhibits that bring together cutting-edge technologies to shape the future of our society.
