NSE: Zomato Launches District App, Enters Online Ticketing Market

In a bid to expand its consumer-facing ventures, food aggregator Zomato has launched District, a dedicated app for its "going-out" business, available on both iOS and Android platforms.

The new app, which marks Zomato's third consumer-facing venture after its flagship food delivery app and quick-commerce platform Blinkit, aims to consolidate the company's growing "going-out" business, covering activities such as dining, movies, sports ticketing, shopping, staycations, and more.

Initially, the District app enables users to book tickets for movies and live events. Zomato's going-out business combines its Dining-out and Zomato Live business verticals under one platform.

The move enters District into a competitive online ticketing market dominated by BookMyShow, which holds a 60% market share in India's movie ticketing segment. To strengthen its position, Zomato had acquired Paytm's entertainment business, Insider, for ₹2,048 crore in late August.

In the recently concluded third quarter, Zomato reported its fifth consecutive net profit with a figure of ₹176 crore. Revenue on an adjusted basis increased by 69% from the same period last year to ₹4,799 crore. This development is marked as another milestone in the company's efforts to diversify and expand into new markets.
