NSCN Marks 46th Raising Day, Calls for Sustainable Solution

IM Phibo Village, Nagaland - The National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) has marked its 46th Raising Day, commemorating the formation of the organization on January 31, 1980. Tongmeth Wangnao, Vice-Chairman of NSCN (I-M), delivered a speech at Hebron Camp, the headquarters of NSCN, paying tribute to the martyrs who have given their lives for the cause.

Addressing the gathering, Wangnao highlighted the importance of recognizing the legitimate rights of the Nagas in self-determination to shape their political identity. "We must take an irrepressible stand to defend our pride and the future of Naga nation," he emphasized.

Wangnao attributed the formation of NSCN as a result of the failures of other Nationalist organizations, including the Naga National Council (NNC), which collapsed under pressure from the Indian government. The NSCN leader credited the Chinese leadership for supporting their efforts, urging the NNC to regroup and redefine the Naga political movement.

As NSCN continued to face challenges from the Indian government, Wangnao noted that the organization maintained its dignity and tenacity in negotiating with India, asserting that "we respect the history of the Nagas a thousand times."

The speech highlighted two significant milestones - the Framework Agreement in 2015, which recognized Naga sovereignty, and official recognition of the uniqueness of Naga history in 2002. These achievements demonstrate NSCN's commitment to defending its rights and negotiating with the Indian government.

Wangnao appealed to the Nagas to remain vigilant and defend their legitimate rights as a nation, warning against India's attempts to undermine the negotiations process. He urged the community to stand together for an honorable and acceptable solution that recognizes Naga sovereignty.

In the concluding remarks, Wangnao invoked the divine connection between the Nagas, saying "For if God be with us who can be against us!" The speech concluded on a note of hope, promising that NSCN will continue to work towards securing a sustainable future for the Naga people.
