NSCN-IM Issues Directive Banning Market Monopolies in Sumi Region
Ahsaacho, |Nagaland |, [Date] - The National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Integrated (NSCN-IM) has issued a directive banning civil societies, business establishments, and organizations from controlling or monopolizing markets within the predominantly Christian Sumi region of Nagaland.
The order, which came into effect immediately on Tuesday, prohibits the issuance of dealership or permits for specific items and the collection of taxes by these groups. According to sources, the directive was received by the NSCN-IM from the Ministry of Kilo Affairs, Government of Nagaland Revolutionary Army (GPRN), dated January 16, 2025.
The directive is aimed at promoting a level playing field for all stakeholders in the region and preventing any attempts at market exploitation. The order also warns of stringent actions against individuals or groups found to be in non-compliance with the Azah (laws) of the Government.
The move has been seen as an effort by the NSCN-IM to promote economic self-sufficiency among the Nagaland people, particularly in rural areas where civil societies and market monopolies have been accused of exploiting vulnerable communities. Residents of the Sumi region have welcomed the directive, stating that it will lead to greater competition and better prices for consumers.
