Nobel Laureate Venki Ramakrishnan Reveals ‘Secrets Of Long Life’ At Jaipur Literature Festival 2025
Jaipur, Rajasthan: India-born Nobel laureate Prof. Venki Ramakrishnan brought home the concept of longevity as his message at the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) 2025, which commenced on Saturday. He shed some light on how stem cell therapy and drastic changes in diet habits could be a recipe to add more years to human life.
Highlighting research being conducted on mouse experiments that show a possible increase in lifespan through stem cell therapy treatment for blood cancer and other disorders, Prof. Ramakrishnan urged the audience to adopt regular exercise to control cholesterol levels and diabetes. To live a healthier lifestyle, he also stressed upon an increase in physical activity and diet which can include green tea-based foods.
Prof. Ramakrishnan expressed that one needs scientific research coupled with knowledge of literature, philosophy, and history to comprehend how these elements could change lives by expanding life duration. He attributed the importance of science in changing lives but made sure his appeal was not skewed towards using technology for personal gain.
During a session titled 'Science Meets Literature,' Prof Ramakrishnan shared experiences detailing various scientific concepts he used as a research professional such as genetic engineering and other emerging technologies. To balance the use of these cutting-edge tools, they must have their impact on human lives assessed responsibly with due consideration to philosophical values.
The renowned Nobel laureate concluded by reiterating that the combination of scientific studies and deep knowledge in life sciences would be highly beneficial for enhancing human lifespan.
