Nepal's Shift Towards Sustainable Development: Plast Nepal 2024 Explores Regional Business Growth, GeoMandu 2024 Discusses Climate-Resilient Infrastructure
KATHMANPUDDHA, APRIL 12 - Kathmandu witnessed a significant influx of international business leaders, policymakers, and experts as Nepal hosted two prominent events aimed at promoting economic development, sustainable growth, and climate-resilience. The 4th Edition of Plast Nepal 2024 shed light on the country's thriving plastic industry, while the second edition of GeoMandu 2024 brought together experts to discuss sustainability in infrastructure development amidst growing concerns about climate change.
For three days, over 150 participants from five countries gathered at BhrikutImandap for Plast Nepal 2024. The event saw exhibits by Indian companies with 45 stalls showcasing their products and services under the umbrella of India's Plastic Export Promotion Council. Keynote speakers emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in boosting economic activities, as evident in the country's improved economic indicators.
"I firmly believe that effective partnerships are crucial for driving growth," said Nepal's Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Damodar Bhandari while inaugurating the event.
Moreover, minister Bhandari stressed the need to incorporate cutting-edge technologies to spur development, reiterating the government's commitment to amending laws in support of domestic production and exports. The Nepali plastic industry, valued around $500 million, is rapidly expanding driven by urbanization and consumer demands, largely due to key partnerships with neighboring India.
In parallel, GeoMandu 2024 drew global interest from numerous countries, including the USA, India, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, Australia, and Kazakhstan. Experts focused on advancements in geotechniques for building resilient infrastructure as a crucial response to climate change's pressing challenges.
During their participation, attendees gathered insights on latest technologies with the aim of developing sustainable practices that could bolster development while preserving environment in modern times.
