Nation Mourns Loss of Former PM Manmohan Singh as National Flag Flies at Half Mast

In a somber mood, the people of India stood still to pay their respects to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 on December 26, 2024. As a mark of respect and mourning, the Central government has declared a seven-day national mourning period, which will commence from December 26 till January 1, 2025.

The National Flag was flown at half mast across all government buildings, institutions, and residences throughout the country to pay tribute to Singh's contributions to Indian economy and politics. Even international locations, including India Missions and High Commissions abroad, have also been instructed to fly their national flag at half mast on this solemn day.

All celebrations, events, and functions are suspended across all government offices during this seven-day period. The central government has cancelled all scheduled programs for December 27 is a working holiday so the central government offices will stay closed.

As tributes pour in from various corners of India, several institutions including Rashtrapati Bhavan, Congress headquarters in Delhi, Telangana Secretariat, Maharashtra Mantralaya, Karnataka Vidhana Soudha and other places also displayed the Tricolour at half mast to pay their respects to Singh's legacy.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikhit confirmed that the funeral procession is likely to take place on Saturday. According to sources near the Congress headquarters, Dr Singh's funeral will be a state-level function, which would include military honor guards, police escort and media crew among others.
