NASA Astronaut Suni Williams Sets Record Straight on Health Amid Tabloid Speculation
Astronaut Suni Williams has come forward to dispel rumors about her health while living on the International Space Station (ISS), sparking a heated debate among tabloids. Media outlets such as The Daily Mail and The New York Post published stories speculating that Williams' weight may be declining due to poor health, citing outside doctor's opinions.
However, NASA officials promptly denied these claims, stating that Williams and other ISS astronauts are in excellent health. In a surprise move, Williams herself has now defended her well-being through a video interview from the ISS on November 12, 2024.
Responding to a question from the New England Sports Network, Williams stated, "I'm the same weight I was when I got up here." This assertion suggests that tabloid reports of her supposed health deterioration were inaccurate.
Williams has been working out diligently on the ISS as part of a rigorous exercise routine, aimed at preventing muscle wasting and bone density loss due to prolonged exposure to microgravity. Her intense workout regimen includes riding an exercise bike, running on a treadmill, and lifting weights.
While Williams' physique may have undergone some notable changes, she insists that her weight remains unchanged. "I could definitely tell that weightlifting has changed me," she stated, highlighting the improvements in her thigh and butt size.
NASA's repeated assertions of Williams' and other ISS astronauts' excellent health come after a past crew mission was postponed due to a malfunctioning spacecraft. Despite these challenges, the ISS team is making progress with the Expedition 72 mission, which has been underway since June 2024.
Williams is set to return from her stint on the ISS in February 2025 as part of SpaceX's Crew-9 mission, marking an end to speculation about her health during this critical period.
