Musk Narrowly Escapes Sanctions from US Court over Twitter Takeover Probes

A federal judge in San Francisco has rejected a request by the US Securities and Exchange Commission to sanction Elon Musk after he missed a court-ordered appearance at a hearing into his $44 billion takeover of Twitter.

US District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley stated that sanctions against Musk were unnecessary, following the testifying entrepreneur's agreement to pay $2,923 in travel costs to appear in court on October 3. This came just days after Musk failed to appear for testimony on September 10 as ordered by the regulator's probe into his Twitter takeover.

In a written statement, Corley wrote that the current circumstances preclude any meaningful relief that the court could grant, rendering the SEC's request for sanctions "moot." The commission had sought a declaration from the court that Musk had violated the May 31 order to provide testimony.
