Murilo Benício and Kevin Vechiatto to Star in Netflix-Produced Comedy Nico
Globo star Murilo Benício is reuniting with Turma da Mônica's Kevin Vechiatto to headline the new film "Nico," a smart comedy series produced by LB Entertainment, which has made waves behind "Netflix" global No. 1 Non-English TV series "Sintonia."
The movie follows the journey of Márcio (Benício) and his son Nico (Vechiatto), who hadn't spoken in years but are forced to embark on a 30-hour road trip together after Márcio receives an unexpected invitation. Along the way, they learn to adapt to each other's worlds and face their personal struggles.
LB Entertainment producer Felipe Braga described "Nico" as a "comedy with a story" that packs an emotional impact, which will appeal to audiences of all ages. The film is set in Brazil and will be distributed by +Galeria.
"This movie is about two very funny characters on a journey – both emotional and geographical," said Braga. "Although the story is not afraid to be sensitive at times, it's still the journey of a comedian and his sarcastic son, and most of the humor comes from the dialogue between them."
LB Entertainment has built its reputation for producing cutting-edge narratives alongside young emerging voices in Brazil. Filipe Serra, writer of "Nico," is no exception, having worked on previous shows such as "Samantha!" and Amazon Prime Video's "Lov3", which won a Brazilian Writer's Guild Award for Best Comedy Series.
"Being cutting edge as well, the film is not afraid to making jokes about tricky complicated subjects in a polarized society," said Braga. "Nico" was also awarded a São Paulo grant, providing financial backing for the film.
Mariana Youssef, newcomer director at LB Entertainment, brought her expertise from hit shows such as "Lov3" and Paramount+"The Followers".
"Nico is a story on masculinity... so we wanted a young and talented female director, a really strong female voice," said producer Rita Moraes.
Benício's involvement adds star power to the project, marking an exciting moment in comedy for Brazilian audiences.
"I have no idea what I did wrong," said Benicio talking about Nico.
The Netflix series "Nico" will bring a new wave of comedic storytelling to audiences worldwide.
