In a dramatic shift from previous days, the city's weather transformed overnight, bringing with it cooler temperatures and heavy fog. The haze that has enveloped Mumbai can be seen in pictures taken by locals this morning, where local trains appeared to be struggling to navigate through the misty conditions at Thakurli railway station.
Eyewitnesses described the weather as "cool" and "hazy," an improvement from the sweltering heat experienced over the past few days.
"The sun just wasn't shining that brightly in today's hazy morning, which felt quite refreshing compared to earlier in the week," said one commuter.
According to latest reports from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai has experienced a temperature drop overnight with temperatures rising at the Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1 degrees Celsius and the Colaba observatory recorded a temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius.
The latest forecast, which holds for just another day, predicts that Mumbai is expected to maintain highs close to this weekend's reading and temperatures slightly lower overnight than the previous night. It has also been announced that relative humidity values of around five per cent are expected by daybreak.
While air quality remains relatively moderate at present, sources report a significant amount of hazardous pollutants present in today's metropolitan environment: "the overall AQI value was 136 this morning as tracked by pollution monitoring tools."
Residents eagerly await clearer skies over the next few hours which forecast will be fully applicable by sunset.
