Mumbai Police Imposes Strict Curfew for Counting Day Amid Maharashtra Assembly Elections
In a bid to ensure smooth counting of votes, the Mumbai police has issued a strict curfew order, prohibiting any assembly of people within a 300-metre radius of all 36 counting centers in the city.
The order comes as elections to the 288-member Maharashtra assembly were held on Wednesday and voting ended on Thursday evening. The counting of votes is scheduled for this Saturday.
With Mumbai comprising 36 assembly constituencies, the police have sought to maintain law and order by keeping a watchful eye on the situation. In accordance with the order issued on Thursday, no person will be allowed to loiter or form any assembly within 300 meters from any counting centre, except official personnel engaged in the election process or public servants on duty.
The curfew order is effective from 6 am on November 21 till midnight on November 24.
