Monsoon Brings Chaos to Southern India: Four Deaths Reported in Kerala

Mumbai (Alayaran.com) - The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alerts for several states in southern India due to extremely heavy rainfall, as the southwest monsoon intensified its presence.
The IMD warned against "Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph" over Kerala and Mahe on May 27. Heavy and very heavy rainfall is expected during the period of June 28-01st June.
In Karnataka, an orange alert has been issued for coastal and south interior regions, while north interior regions will face heavy to very heavy rainfall from May 26th-30th June. The situation is being closely monitored by the weather agency.
The monsoon's arrival in Mumbai on May 26 marks its earliest onset in 19 years, catching residents off guard as light to moderate rains continued to fall throughout the day.
"Tamil Nadu will experience heavy downpour until May 31, including thunderstorms, lightning & gusty winds," stated the weather agency.
Heavy monsoon showers forced four people's deaths in Kerala due to extreme rain, announced Chief Minister's Office. In Wayanad district five relief camps were set up, which included one each in Idukki as well as Kozhikode districts, according to CMO officials.
Heavy rainfall had caused 29 houses destroyed while 868 others partially damaged. In Wayanad city streets and low-lying areas continued to be flooded leading to traffic disruptions and several trees being uprooted.
