Mohamed Salah Hints at Uncertainty Over New Liverpool Contract as He Claims Far Away from Agreement

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has sparked discussions over his future at the club, claiming that he is "far away" from agreeing a new contract despite an outstanding season on the pitch.

Salah scored one goal and set up two others in Liverpool's 5-0 thrashing of West Ham, helping the team move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League. The Egyptian superstar has been in phenomenal form this season, with 17 goals and 13 assists to his name.

When asked about updating fans on a potential new deal by Sky Sports pundit Gary Lineker during halftime, Salah stated that nothing has progressed so far regarding contract talks with the club.

"We are far away from that. I don't want to put something in the media and people start saying stuff, but nothing really has moved on," he said. "Now I am focused on the team and hopefully we win the Premier League."

Despite his outstanding form, Salah remains uncertain about his future at Liverpool, with his current contract set to expire in the summer. His teammate and captain Virgil van Dijk is also in talks over a new deal of his own.

However, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes that Salah's incredible performances may force Liverpool's hand in offering him a long-term extension. "I understand Liverpool's position," he said. "He's 32 in June so how long do they give him? Right now, he looks like he could play for the next four years, but you just don't know."

Redknapp noted that Salah is playing at an incredibly high level, with his total of 52 goal involvements across all competitions in 2024 surpassing even the top players in Europe. "He's so hungry, so effective, so good at what he does and it's playing into Liverpool's hands," he said.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot described Salah as the best player in the world right now, praising his work rate both on and off the pitch. "If you look at his numbers, you can't argue [with] that. He's definitely up there at the moment."

The Egyptian winger has proven himself to be a driving force for Liverpool, helping the team drive towards another Premier League title. With his incredible form, it is clear that he will be a key player in the club's success whether or not he stays at Anfield.
