Modi Warns Against Digital Threats Over Cybercrimes, AI Technology
Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed concern over potential threats generated by digital frauds, cybercrimes, and AI technology at the 59th All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police. The premier called for the use of technology to reduce police workload while emphasizing the importance of harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool against various security challenges.
Addressing senior police officers at the conference, Modi underscored the need for strategic and meticulous policing strategies, including improving urban civic and social initiatives. He expanded his idea of SMART policing - Strict and Sensitive, Modern and Mobile, Alert and Accountable, Reliable and Responsive - emphasizing the importance of technology in effective modern policing.
The prime minister also suggested a national police hackathon as a countermeasure to cyber threats and reviewed the security situation on India's neighbourhood borders. Further calls for boosting port security were emphasized by Modi through expanding focus areas using future technologies.
Moreover, the Prime Minister mentioned that police departments must continue embracing cutting-edge digital tools in order to tackle growing security problems such as narco-trafficking, economic insecurity, left-wing extremism, and maritime threats along India's porous neighborhood. His suggestions aim to build a smarter approach for tackling rising counter-terrorism challenges and strengthen cooperation with the nation's border neighbors.
Accordingly, a renewed focus will be placed on training law enforcement personnel in advanced digital forensics, cyber-intelligence gathering techniques, digital awareness education programs, cross-agency knowledge sharing initiatives that promote policing modernity through leveraging AI-driven intelligence management strategies.
