Modi to Receive Highest National Award from Dominica Amid India-Caricom Summit

New Delhi: In a significant gesture of appreciation, the Caribbean nation of Dominica has announced that it will award its highest national honor, the Dominica Award of Honour, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi this month. The award, presented during the upcoming India-Caricom Summit in Guyana from November 19 to 21, recognizes Modi's contribution to Dominica during the Covid-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengthening the partnership between the two nations.
According to a statement issued by the office of the Caribbean nation's Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister Modi supplied Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in February 2021, a generous gift that enabled Dominica to extend support to its Caribbean neighbors. Skerrit has expressed his gratitude towards Modi for his support and commended him as a "true partner" during a time of need.
The India Ministry of External Affairs had earlier announced that Modi would co-chair the second India-Caricom Summit in Guyana, alongside the Prime Minister of Grenada, who is the current Chair of Caricom. The summit will also feature leaders from all Caricom member states and associate member states, as well as the secretary general of Caricom.
The Dominica Award of Honour is the highest national accolade conferred by the Caribbean nation, reflecting its strong ties with India. This marks a significant recognition of Modi's efforts in strengthening the partnership between the two nations, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
As the India-Caricom Summit approaches, expectations are high for the summit to foster cooperation and collaboration between India and Caricom. With this gesture from Dominica, Prime Minister Modi is set to receive a fitting tribute to his contributions towards strengthening relationships between India and the Caribbean community.
