Modi to Embark on Historic Three-Nation Visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana from November 16-21

New Delhi, November 12, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a three-nation visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana from November 16-21, 2024. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the schedule of the visit earlier today.

This significant trip marks several milestones in India's diplomatic relations with these countries. This will be the first time an Indian Prime Minister is travelling to Guyana since 1968, highlighting the importance India attaches to its economic and strategic ties with this Caribbean nation.

Modi is also slated to make his first visit to Nigeria in over 17 years. During his stint there, he will engage in talks with Nigerian officials to review and strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership between India and Nigeria. The two countries have been fostering strong collaboration in areas like economics, energy, and defense since 2007.

Upon arrival at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on November 18-19, Modi is expected to attend the G20 Summit being hosted by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, where he will put forward India's positions on pressing global issues. On the sidelines of the summit, Modi is likely to meet several world leaders.

Modi's visit to Guyana from November 19-21 marks a historic moment for bilateral relations with this small nation in South America. He will arrive at an invitation by Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and engage in high-level talks with him, other senior officials, and address the Parliament of Guyana.

While in Georgetown, Modi is set to join the Second CARICOM-India Summit, further cementing India's long-standing friendship with Caribbean nations. The visit sets a significant precedent for increased cooperation between India and its Caribbean neighbours, amidst growing economic ties and strategic interests.

A detailed itinerary will be released by the MEA before November 16 to provide a comprehensive overview of PM Modi’s engagements in these three nations.
