Modi Receives Warm Welcome in Rio de Janeiro Ahead of G20 Summit

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his gratitude for a memorable welcome in Rio de Janeiro, as he arrived at the Brazilian city to participate in the G20 Summit. The Prime Minister took to his X handle to post a video of his arrival and the warm reception by the Indian community.

A large number of people waved Indian flags, displayed pictures of PM Modi, sang welcome songs, and offered him folk dances at the airport. Some also sought his autograph, which he gladly provided.

In his post, PM Modi wrote, "A celebration of Indian culture in Brazil! Gratitude for a memorable welcome in Rio de Janeiro." The Prime Minister described the warm welcome as "the energy reflects the affection that binds us across continents."

Earlier, PM Modi arrived in Brazil after concluding his visit to Nigeria, where he held discussions with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He will now participate in the G20 Summit, where India is a key member of the Troika.

During the summit, the Prime Minister planned to put forward India's positions on various global issues, building on the outcomes from previous summits hosted by India.

On Tuesday, PM Modi was expected to meet several leaders on the sidelines of the summit. However, later in the day, it was confirmed that he will also travel to Georgetown, Guyana, where he will hold bilateral discussions with senior leaders, address the Parliament of Guyana, and participate in a gathering of the Indian diaspora.

This visit marks PM Modi's first trip to Guyana since 1968. Last year, Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali visited India as the Chief Guest at the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, where he received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award.

The visit is crucial for strengthening India's long-standing friendship with the region, and PM Modi will also participate in the Second CARICOM-India Summit to enhance ties.
