Modi Receives Highest National Award from Dominica Ahead of CARICOM Summit
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive the highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, during his upcoming visit to the Caribbean nation. The award is conferred in recognition of his contributions to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengthening the partnership between India and Dominica.
According to a statement released by the government, Prime Minister Skerrit of Dominica will confer the award on PM Modi during the India-CARICOM Summit. The country has also lauded India's support for education and information technology under PM Modi's leadership.
India supplied Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in February 2021, a generous gift that enabled the country to extend support to its Caribbean neighbours. This announcement comes days ahead of PM Modi's visit to Guyana, marking a significant milestone as it will be his first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over half a century.
Dominica expressed its gratitude for PM Modi's solidarity with the country during the global health crisis. "Prime Minister Modi has been a true partner to Dominica, particularly during our time of need amid a global health crisis," said President Sylvanie Burton. The award is also seen as a symbol of the strong ties between India and Dominica.
In response, PM Modi emphasized the importance of collaboration in tackling global challenges such as climate change and geopolitical conflicts. "India's commitment to working alongside Dominica and the Caribbean in addressing these issues remains unwavering," said a statement released by the Prime Minister's office.
The award marks a significant milestone in India-Dominica relations and comes ahead of PM Modi's maiden visit to Guyana, marking his first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over half a century.
