Modi Inaugurates 38th National Games in Uttarakhand with Eco-Friendly 'Green Games' Theme
Dehradun, Uttarakhand - Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the 38th National Games in Dehradun, marking a significant milestone for the state as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The event, themed 'Green Games,' highlights India's growing sports culture and provides a platform for youth across the country to showcase their talent.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of sports in shaping the future, promoting fitness, and boosting the local economy. He also stressed the nation's commitment to environmental sustainability, with initiatives such as using e-waste for trophies and medals.
During his inaugural address, Modi praised the energy and potential showcased by youth athletes, while highlighting cultural enrichment through traditional local games. He also commended Meerut's significant role in sports equipment production.
Modi expressed confidence in India's potential to host the 2036 Olympics, touting its positive impact on infrastructure, tourism, and the economy. He emphasized the benefits of hosting the National Games for Uttarakhand, including economic growth, job creation, and enhanced tourism.
The event also saw Modi urge citizens to focus on fitness, exercise, and a balanced diet to combat obesity, while encouraging reduction in cooking oil consumption as a health improvement step. The Prime Minister stressed the power of sports in unifying the country, promoting teamwork, and inspiring collective growth.
The National Games feature notable events such as Khelo India Youth Games, University Games, and Para Games, providing platforms for young athletes to compete. A total of 18 states and three Union Territories are participating in the games this year.
Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Gurmit Singh, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and Union Ministers Ajay Tamta and Raksha Khadse were present at the event.
