Minimum Government, Maximum Governance: PM Modi Clarifies Concept
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday clarified the concept of "minimum government, maximum governance", stating that the aim is not to reduce ministers and employees but to increase the speed of work in different departments through streamlining processes.
In a podcast conversation with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, released on Friday, PM Modi said the government took away 40,000 compliances to enhance efficiency. "We often misunderstand the concept of minimum government, maximum governance. It's not about having fewer ministers and employees," he said.
To illustrate this point, Prime Minister Modi mentioned creating different ministries for skill, cooperatives, and fisheries. He explained that the goal is to remove unnecessary obstacles and demand from various departments.
The PM also discussed India's technological standing globally, saying his government has successfully democratized technology and taught the world how it is done. He highlighted examples such as direct benefit transfers and affordable mobile connectivity, which have made a significant impact.
Regarding international perceptions, Prime Minister Modi fondly recalled a 2005 statement where he said Indians would one day wish they had visited India. Today, he believes that this sentiment has changed, with people from around the world wanting to visit and invest in India.
Additionally, the Prime Minister expressed his stance on global conflicts, asserting that while peacekeeping is always an option, it's also essential to acknowledge those who require support. He attributed India's increased credibility globally to its commitment to helping countries in distress.
PM Modi concluded by emphasizing his party's vision of minimum government and maximum governance as a reflection of modern times where technology plays a pivotal role.
