'Mini India' Flourishes in Caribbean Nation, Guyana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the remarkable contribution of the Indian diaspora in Caribbean nation Guyana, terming it as a 'Mini India'. Addressing the 116th episode of 'Mann Ki Baat', PM Modi noted that people of Indian origin have made significant strides in politics, business, education and culture.

The Prime Minister stated that thousands of kilometres away from India, the Caribbean nation is proud to describe itself as 'Mini India' due to its vibrant community of Indians. He specifically mentioned President Dr. Irfan Ali as a shining example, who proudly showcases his Indian heritage.

PM Modi also shed light on an extraordinary project in Oman aimed at preserving the history of families that have lived there for centuries. Collaborating with the National Archives of India and the Indian Embassy, they are meticulously collecting documents dating back to 1838, offering insights into their experiences and interactions with locals.

The Prime Minister's remarks further highlighted a unique effort in Slovakia - translating ancient Indian texts, including the Upanishads, into the Slovak language. This initiative reflects the global influence of Indian culture, he remarked.

PM Modi's official visit to Guyana earlier this month saw India and Guyana sign 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), covering key areas like agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and cultural exchange. The nation is also expected to receive credit facilities from India for mutual development projects.

As a parting gift, PM Modi received the 'Key to the city of Georgetown' during his visit. He was warmly welcomed by members of the Indian community in Guyana.

PM Modi's visit is expected to strengthen regional ties and open new avenues for collaboration between India and Guyana, marking a significant milestone in the relationship between the two nations.

The Prime Minister's remarks on embracing global citizenship and honoring one's heritage have sent an uplifting message to Indians worldwide who are building their lives abroad.
