Meet Vaibhav Anant, Founder and CEO of Bambrew, a Start-Up Focused on Sustainable Packaging

KOLKATA,WEST BENGAL: In an effort to combat the devastating effects of single-use plastic waste, Vaibhav Anant, 34, founded Bambrew in 2018. With a passion for sustainability and innovation, Anant has been working tirelessly to create eco-friendly packaging solutions that are not only cost-effective but also scaleable and functionally similar to conventional plastic packaging.

Bambrew's products use natural fibres such as bamboo, sugarcane and seaweed as raw materials, accompanied by a proprietary coating technology that gives paper products the strength and durability of plastic. This innovative approach has helped reduce single-use plastic waste by an astonishing 60,000 tons, carbon dioxide emissions by 1.25 lakh tons, and energy consumption by millions of kilowatts.

"From a simple concept of eliminating plastic straws, we discovered that there was a massive need for sustainable packaging across industries," says Anant. "One of our biggest challenges was to commercialize our products while ensuring our alternatives were eco-friendly, cost-effective, scaleable and functionally similar to conventional plastic packaging."

Anant's entrepreneurial journey began while working at an EdTech firm, where he became inspired by a video of a marine biologist extracting a plastic straw from a sea turtle's nose. This moment sparked his interest in single-use plastics and led him to embark on a mission to create sustainable solutions.

"From that day forward, I quit my job to address the issue through Bambrew," says Anant. "It feels like a small victory for the planet through the decisions made in a conference room or over a product order."

Anant's success story is not just about innovation but also about mentorship and growth. He credits his wife, Vaishali, as his greatest source of inspiration and strength, while acknowledging the wisdom and insights provided by K Ravi Kumar, IAS, Secretary of Industries, Jharkhand, and RK Srivastava, Director of National Bamboo Mission in Karnataka.

"I've learned through Ganesamurthy, the ex-founder of Sellerworx and ex-Flipkart," says Anant. "His journey as an entrepreneur has taught me about resilience, innovation and the importance of building strong business ecosystems."

As Anant reflects on his experiences, he emphasizes the importance of humility and empathy in leadership, stating, "Humility and empathy are qualities deeply instilled in me by my wife."

In addition to Bambrew's success story, we spoke with Vaibhav Anant about his morning routine, which includes mindfulness, research and preparation for the day ahead.
